At Beyond Baroque, Venice Beach, CA on Sat night Sept 24, 2016, Sensations Magazine Publisher David Messineo offered a television- and California-inspired set for the California reading for Rabbit Ears (available on amazon.com). This set forms David's first poetry reading in California since his National Poetry Tour in October 2000. His opening poem, "Conceiving Television at Age 14 Atop a Plow in Rigby, Idaho" (full title) is based on the true story of an American teenager, Philo T. Farnsworth, now recognized as the father of electronic television. Farnsworth not only figured out the scientific breakthrough that had stymied others, but carried this forward to creating a working television and transmitting the first TV image (a dollar sign). This version of the poem is a revised version of what is published in David's 2013 324-page poetry opus, Historiopticon. Historiopticon focuses on an Edward R. Morrow "You Are There" approach to American history from the 16th to 21st centuries, and is still available at blurb.com.
