Watch as Parents Magazine explains these baby care basics! Your baby is most at risk of contracting the flu during fall and winter months, so be mindful of any signs of flu your little one may be exhibiting. At 6 months old, newborns can receive their first flu shot. Early flu symptoms that warrant a call to the pediatrician include sudden fever, unusual sleepiness, decreased appetite, dry hacking cough, chills, fussiness, and a stuffy or runny nose. Your pediatrician can give your newborn an antiviral medicine to treat the flu the earlier you call. Babies aged 6 months or older can be given pain relievers like infant's acetaminophen or ibuprofen to bring their fever down. For infants younger than 3 months old, check with your doctor before giving her any medication. Make sure she drinks plenty, and if she appears dehydrated, visit your doctor. Keep these baby care tips in mind to prevent signs of flu from entering your home!
