Thanksgiving weekend project - I thought I would find out what all the fuss is about. Never tried a tricopter nor a V-tail before. I am still a pretty ordinary pilot but I can see why people fly these now.
For those that asked. It uses a KK 2.0 flight controller and Turnigy 1811 2900kv motors turning 5x3 props. The props are held on with prop savers. ESCs are Turnigy plush 6A.
The frame is built from ply and the 1cm square dowel you can get from Home Depot. Front motor spacing 23 cm and 20 cm front to back (center to center). The rear motors are mounted on a V with angles to horizontal of 40 degrees. The rear motors are 6 cm from the center. Motors are held on with zip ties.
This copter lasted until just before Christmas when it did not survive a full speed crash into the wall. The rebuild was a little smaller and did not fly as well so I would stick to these dimensions. I flew really well.
