How about some very tasty Peranakan braised duck? This was purchased to go from the nearby Ivin’s Peranakan Restaurant. While certainly not the sexiest looking dish in the world, this well-kept secret has won my heart. In the video : Itik Sioh (Braised Duck in Thick Sweet Tamarind Gravy). This often less-ordered dish has always been a quiet favourite of mine. What makes it really special is the blend of preserved soy bean paste (tau cheo) and roasted coriander seeds used to conjure up so much of that magic in the gravy. Tenderly braised and simmered in a wonderously delectable concoction, the end result was fowl that was aromatic, succulent and begging to be eaten. Pongteh fans will love this one.
