Wide pan of meeting STORYLINE Chinese and Australian officials met in Beijing on Monday to discuss China's handling of its HIV/AIDS problem and other human rights issues, the Australian Embassy said in a statement. The talks are the ninth in a series of official dialogues between the two countries which began in 1997. Monday's meeting was attended by Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Shen Guofang and the Deputy Secretary of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Dr Geoff Raby. The Australian delegation plans to visit China's central Hunan province to see how officials are handling the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the release said. They will also discuss labour rights, women's rights, religious freedom, the treatment of political activists and other issues, it said. The Australian delegation is also expected to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.
