Today at 1:55 p.m. the Modesto Fire Department responded to reports of a house on fire at 1608 College Ave. between Granger Ave. and Briggsmore Ave. in Modesto, California. As the first engines responded they could see a large amount of black smoke billowing into the air as they approached so they immediately called for a second alarm to dispatch additional help. Fire crews attacked the structure fire however, it continued to spread gaining momentum in the attic of the Victorian style home. So, they dispatched a third alarm which brought a total of 6 Engines, 2 Trucks, and 6 Chief Officers to the scene. The Modesto Fire Department was able to bring the fire under control after about 45 minutes of hard work. The occupants of the residence who were home at the time escaped the blaze without injury however, 2 firefighters were injured during the fire fight. On was hit by debris and the other became over heated. Their injuries were considered to be minor. They were treated at the scene by E.M.S. and both immediately returned to duty.
