Here are a few tips for assessing thoracic spine mobility. Thoracic spine mobility is important for many functional movement patterns. Restriction in the thoracic spine may inevitably lead to muscle imbalances and compensatory patterns. We commonly see limited thoracic spine movement associated with hypermobility in the lumbar spine, poor scapular stability, or poor shoulder joint mobility to name a few. This assessment does not indicate what specifically is causing thoracic spine restriction, but rather points you in the right direction to further investigate the mobility dysfunction. To get thoroughly evaluated visit a sport medicine professional or an SFMA certified practitioner. About Andrew: Aloha!
