The popular Karnofsky Store in New Orleans, a Jewish family’s former tailor shop where a young jazz legend named Louis Armstrong began his career has been reduced to rubble after Hurricane Ida hit. Footage filmed at the site of the destroyed building on Tuesday highlights the destruction caused by Hurricane Ida.

The Karnofsky Store was a residence in New Orleans that served as a second home for Armstrong and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Armstrong reportedly worked for the family as a youth and shared meals with them. They were said to have encouraged his early musical talent, going as far as purchasing his first trumpet for him.
