USA: Biden urges Americans to get vaccinated after FDA fully approves Pfizer jab

US President Joe Biden urged Americans to get vaccinated against COVID-19 during a briefing held at the White House, Washington D.C. on Monday, citing a recent study carried out by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) affirming that the Pfizer vaccine is ‘safe and effective’.
“After a strict process, the FDA has reaffirmed its finding that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective, and the FDA has given its full and final approval,” said Biden during his speech.
Biden went on to claim that the spread of the Delta variant of the disease is causing a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated’ and that COVID-19 cases are ‘far less common’ and ‘far less severe’ among those who have received both vaccinations.
“The sooner you get fully vaccinated, the sooner you’ll be protected. According to the experts from the Yale School of Public Health, the pace of our vaccination efforts has saved over one hundred thousand lives, and has prevented more than four hundred and fifty thousand hospitalisations,” Biden stated.
To conclude the briefing, Biden claimed that the ongoing US vaccination effort against coronavirus is ‘one of the biggest and most complicated challenges in our history’, and encouraged Americans to ‘finish the job, with science, facts, and confidence, together’.
So far, 52 percent of Americans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, amounting to over 171 million people, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
