I’m beginning to think that this “posting a video a day while I’m on vacation” thing wasn’t such a good idea, but I started it, so I’ll see it through. Don’t worry, it’ll be over soon.
I’m posting this one because we’re going to see a Journey/The Doobie Bros/Dave Mason show tonight at Bethel Woods. Bethel Woods is on the original site of the 1969 Woodstock concert and is a beautiful venue that’s reasonably close to where we live. We saw Journey a few years ago with the other drummer, before he went off the deep end, and they were pretty good. I expect that having Steve Smith back behind the drums will really add something special to the show. We’ve seen The Doobie Bros. a bunch of times and, while I’m not a big fan, they’ve never disappointed. They always sound topnotch.
I did this cover shortly after I got this bass last April. It's a 1981 Peavey T-40 just like the one I thought Ross Valory played on this album...long story. This was the bass that started my collecting binge, which is hopefully nearing its end. I believe I wrote exhaustingly about it in my ”Don’t Stop Believing” cover if anyone is interested in what I have to say about it.
I think it’s writing these intros that’s so draining. By tomorrow, it will probably be down to one sentence.
The song is ”Who’s Crying Now” by Journey from their album, “Escape” which came out in 1981. The great, underrated Ross Valory played the bass. I found it a bit tricky during the verses, to mute the string when going from the A to the low F. Had to be mindful of that.
