The government says it does not have plans to scrap the e-tolling system in Gauteng. It's responding to July's reports by Gauteng ANC chairperson, David Makhura, who said the party will be leading the campaign to scrap e-tolls. Transport Minister, Blade Nzimande, says there are no immediate plans to scrap the controversial e-tolling system in Gauteng. Opposition parties and civil society have been demanding that e-tolls, which were introduced in 2013, should be done away with. Nzimande says SANRAL has no other way to pay for the highways it has already built
