In this Physics video tutorial in Hindi we evaluated the torque acting on a magnetic dipole when placed in a uniform magnetic field. When a bar magnet, which can be considered as a magnetic dipole, is placed in a uniform magnetic field, the north pole experiences a force equal to the product of the magnetic field intensity and the pole strength in the direction of the magnetic field; but the south pole experiences a force, same in magnitude but opposite in direction. Hence a torque acts on the magnetic dipole, due to which the magnet tends to rotate. That torque is found to be the cross product of the magnetic dipole moment of the dipole and the magnetic field strength.
