SR 35018 British India Line - The Winter Cumbrian Mtn Express, Manchester Vic-Carlisle. 25/1/20

SR Merchant Navy class 4-6-2 no 35018 British India Line working 1Z65 The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express from Manchester Victoria to Carlisle on Sat 25th January 2020. The first railtour on RTC's books for the year & the first steam railtour of the 2020's was worked by Carnforth's SR Merchant Navy class 4-6-2 no 35018 British India Line. Like the 2019 run the trip was run northbound over the famous Settle and Carlisle line while the southbound return trip would be over Shap Summit down the WCML. 35018 would later be replaced by a diesel loco at Carnforth for the journey back to Manchester Victoria. We first see 35018 as she arrives in Carlisle after running north over the famous S&C. A few shots of her show her parked up at the northern end of Carlisle Citadel station before she detaches from her train and makes her way back through the station heading towards Carlisle Upperby for servicing. After a 2hr layover in Carlisle which included servicing the engine. 35018 is seen departing from Carlisle as she begins the run south down the WCML to Plumpton loop where she would stop for around 37 minutes to allow regular express trains to pass. Steam loco's being maxed at 75mph compared to the 100mph express trains of today. After racing past her our final shot shows her speeding through Oxenholme on her way back to Carnforth where she would hand over the train to modern traction. She would then return to her home at the former 10A motive power depot at Carnforth.
