The first feature by influential early gay porn studio Hand in Hand Films and director Jack Deveau, LEFT-HANDED (1972) is a moody, beautiful, and surprisingly downbeat character piece about the short-lived relationship between a gay NYC hustler (Ray Frank) and a straight pot dealer from the country (Robert Rikas). When their mutual acquaintance, an an antique shop owner (Larry Burns) introduces them, Ray vows to seduce Bob. Ray, restless and often bored, seeks the purity of ritual sexuality and seduction without all the hang-ups, but is temporarily intrigued by how different Bob is from the city guys he typically encounters. The Gay Scene called LEFT-HANDED "a gay sex film of inherent quality, delicate scope… a breathtaking lovely, tender male love story… artful, touching and poignant."
