Ram Pump Snifter Valve vs No Valve

Does it make a difference to have a snifter valve on a ram pump? In this video I test the efficiency of having a snifter valve vs not having one. This snifter valve is not a true valve. I just placed a small hole in the pump to see if I could get air to replenish the pressure tank.
