Here's a 1 inch ram pump. Its made almost entirely out of freely available plastic fittings,(Off Ebay). The only non plastic part is the impetus valve that is a brass swing gate valve. The cost of this pump is under £50.00, and as you can see it works great. If you are making one yourself make sure you get the snifter valve valve right, it needs to be a tiny hole with a pin or tiny nail in it to just allow a very small amount of air to be drawn in on each stroke. Plastic drive pipes work okay but a steel pipe is far better in fact 4 times better at transmitting the shock wave. This pump in fact lifted water 50 ft up with a 7 ft head, if it were steel this could be as much as 200ft. Great devices and a fun thing to build.
