New data given to the ABC shows two thirds of all strip searches carried out by New South Wales police this year failed to find any drugs.
The number of successful prosecutions over drugs has plummeted also.
There's growing pressure on the state government to reform the system after a public inquiry was told about the use of strip searches - some possibly illegal - at a music festival.
