Last saturday, AC Taxi Driver Sunny Bhullar was dispatched to call at a gas station in North Nanaimo. He picked up the customer and drove him to The Cambie bar. Once they arrived, the passenger refused to pay the fare. Bhullar threatened to call police and that's when the man repeatedly punched him in the back of the head. The punches were so hard they knocked out Bhullar. When he came to, he used his radio to call for help. Other taxi drivers came to his rescue and took Bhullar to the hospital. Sunny says he has welts on the back of his head and is having massive headaches. Its the second time he has been attacked in the past weeks. Other drivers are now fearing for their safety. Rashpaul Singh Parmar says its time the company installed security cameras or a safety shield in the cars to help protect the drivers. Parmar says that the drivers are in vulnerable positions and need some sort of protection. AC Taxi President Gary Smith says if they install security cameras in the cars then the cost will be off setted by the customer. Bhullar says he has no choice but to drive cab. He is the bread winner in the family and needs to get behind the wheel. He hopes his company will install the cameras in the cars so he feels some sort of security.
