During the weekend, the mother of a novice monk filed a report with police accusing sixty four year old monk, Supachai Sutthiyano, of assaulting her son at a temple in Thailand’s Kanchanaburi. Nine year old Dew was admitted to the ER after he had been hit several times with wooden sticks, causing him to suffer serious injuries including broken bones, brain damage and facial injuries. He was also nearly drowned after having his head forcibly immersed in water. Monk Supachai claimed that he only wanted to punish Dew as he had been disobedient and had caused trouble. Monk Supachai has since left the monkhood and has been charged with assault.
