Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said at least twice that he didn't recall Attorney General Jeff Sessions taking an interest in Russia-related security issues as a senator.
In the public hearing Tuesday, Sessions said before the Senate Intelligence Committee that he met with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. During the meeting, Sessions said he questioned the ambassador on Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“I remember pushing back on it, and it was testy on that subject,” Sessions said.
“Knowing you on the committee, I can’t imagine that,” McCain replied.
When McCain pressed Sessions again on what security issues he may have discussed with Kislyak, including Russian meddling in the U.S. election last year, the attorney general said he couldn't recall if these topics were discussed or we the subject of hearings.
“I don’t recall you as being particularly vocal on such issues,” McCain said.
