There was further violence in Israel and the West Bank on Friday
(29/9) following the signing of the peace agreement between Israel
and the Palestine Liberation Organisation the previous day in
Washington. In the West Bank town of Hebron, where 400 Jewish
settlers live among 100,000 Palestinians, violence erupted when
youths pelted Israeli soldiers with stones in the main street.
In central Israel, a small group of right-wing Jewish demonstrators opposed to the release of Palestinian detainees held on terrorism charges protested outside a prison. A 35-year-old Israeli man was stabbed in the back by an unknown assailant in Jerusalem's Christian quarter on Friday (29/9).
