ICOM 703 Field Antenna Test

Testing a portable field antenna for 80m (3.5MHz). Coax fed, 1/4 wavelength hung over 30 foot tall tree canopy, shield side 1/4 counterpoise on ground. Elements connected with alligator clips to allow band changing. Fairly good for NVIS or general purpose use. Better if both sided elevated about 20 feet or more for NVIS. Advantage of the L-configuration with ground level feed point is ease of installation - just throw the center conductor element over a tree and stretch out the counterpoise. Insulated wire required. This antenna uses 20 ga. solid copper with UV resistant HDPE insulation (sold for underground "invisible" dog fences in 500 foot spools).
