~~ Review Script ~~
G.I. Joe: Rise Of The Cobra is yet another big-budget entry into the every-diminishing comic-book/children's toy category. To put it simply, the movie is about a crazy Scottish dude who wants to almost blow up the world while an elite group of super-secret soldiers known as the GI Joes - try to stop him. This movie is all over the place, with numerous stoppages in the action to take time out to develop any number of the nearly 20 character origin stories the writers tried to cram in here. This is the films biggest flaw! I don't give a damn why Snake Eyes doesn't talk, or that Breaker likes bubble gum. The movie really suffered from these optional scenes that in no way forwarded the plot of the movie. I mean yes, you could argue it's all in the name of "character development" - but who are we kidding? No one is going to see this movie for expertly written dialogue - we're watching for kick-ass action sequences.
Luckily for GI Joe - this is the one aspect of the film that was very thoroughly accomplished. I felt the 2nd-act chase sequence through the streets of Paris, with the GI Joes pursuing the bad guys in their "super suits" felt like parkour guy... on crack. Very exciting to watch, and surprisingly edited in such a way that kept the excitement enough, but not to a point where you couldn't tell what was going on. To keep things interesting, the final act of the movie is set under water with submarines dog-fighting each other, which was pretty cool. But what was with director Stephen Sommers casting Brendon Frasier and Arnold Vosloo in two bit-parts? Is he trying to convince someone that Mummy 4 is a good idea? 'cause Mummy 3 sucked balls.
Okay, lets see what you had to say about GI Joe: Rise Of The Cobra: tigerking2 Good, but if i wanted to see it again i would watch the trailor; hararaldur The lamest movie I've ever seen... the submarine fight in the end? the only reason that hasn't been done before is because submarines a effin boring.. that is all...; crazynoahloks13 Watching G.I. Joe was like crapping in my own pants... without even the brief sense of relief, this movie doesn't even fall on the scale of 1 - 10, it just drips out of the leg of my pants.
Okay - lets see GI Joe did on the Rate-O-Matic! I give this movie a "5". It was alright. Nothing special, but it was certainly entertaining enough to keep my attention for the 118-minute run time. Too many characters, and poor acting hurt this movie, but I felt the dynamic action sequences and special effects made up for some of it. 5 out of 10!
