SOT, Alexey Ulyukaev, Russian Minister of Economy (Russian): "We are living through a difficult situation however fundamental principals of our economy remain sustainable. Russia is still the sixth biggest economy in the world, with the smallest public debt among the developing states, with a sustainable budget. This year we have made up a budget with a surplus. This budget is very well protected from such a dramatic economic decline on the world markets we are witnessing now."

The Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Alexey Ulyukaev, delivered a report at the 'Perspectives on economic relations with Russia' conference in Stuttgart, Tuesday.
Speaking on the attractiveness of the Russian economy, Ulyakaev said that the Russian economy is sustainable and has had a positive surplus this year despite the worsening of the situation in the world markets.
Commenting on the economic sanctions imposed on Russia, Ulyukaev expressed his hope that the time of politically motivated decision by Europe that contradict European economic interests would end. He called on his European partners to work together to solve problems.
Held in Stuttgart's Chamber of Commerce, the event was organised to discuss the current and future status of economic and trade relations between Baden-Württemberg and Russia, which organisers of the event say are facing a "severe endurance test" following the European Union imposing sanctions on Russia.
