In lesson 4, we will learn all about Phonic Sounds of the letters in the English Alphabet. Phoneme /fōnēm/Plural-Phonemes Phonemes are the smallest unit of sound in any language. A phoneme does not stand or represent anything if left alone. A baby makes his first sound, /mah/ /mah/ or /dah/ /dah/. Blend the two sounds to form a baby’s first words: /mah/+/mah/= mama /dah/+/dah/=dada Each letter of the English alphabet has its own sound. Words are formed by blending these individual sounds. Phonemes are placed between two forward slashes “/ /”.
