At our school we use stance training to develop strong legs, coordination, agility and balance. But each stance is also used in a unique way in self defense to move forward, sink down, yield back, root and move side to side; the stances are the literal foundation for self defense techniques and as a whole, combined with striking, kicking or seizing techniques, are the basis for well rounded defense and offense.
