DPMS LR308 at 500 Yards Using Osprey 10-40x56 Scope

I finally found a place where I can actually shoot beyond 200 yards. At 100 or 200 yards the rifle is pretty much a tack-driver, but it's a really cheap scope: a 10-40x56 at only $150. I wanted to see what it would do at 500 yards but I kinda assumed that with cheap optics it would be a challenge at that range.
I was correct, I couldn't even turn it up to 40x because it became too dark & blurry. 36x-ish was tolerable and usable, but still blurry. I think it (and I) did pretty good for shooting beyond 200 yards for the first time - even hit the 4"x4" exploding target on the first shot!
For reference, the target was a NRA type B-29 and the outside ring is approximately 10"x7".
I am so getting a better optic when I have the funds...
