The title and Map01 Entryway theme (Running From Evil) from Doom 2 as played on a Roland (Super JV) JV-1080 64 Voice Synthesizer
Module in General MIDI mode. This is only a snippet of the true capabilities of this workhorse synth!
Other Roland synths that will work with Doom 2 in General MIDI includes the older Sound Canvas modules as well as the JV-1010, JV-2080, XP-50, XP-80, XV5050 and XV5080 to name a few.
The game version is 1.666 from September 1994, and the JV-1080 you hear in this presentation has a manufacturing period of September 1994. Could you say these two were made for each other? Regardless, here is a raw audio capture from real hardware using no external effects or sound processors. Doom 2 ran using DOSBox 0.74.
The Doom 2 soundtrack belongs to its respective owners. This content is strictly intended as non-profit entertainment/infotainment with the intent of educating people about old software and hardware.
