In this candid talk with the first woman elected to represent the State of Minnesota in the US Senate, Senator Amy Klobuchar shares the personal story of her entry into politics as well as reveal her secret to getting things done on a bipartisan basis, which has been her mission since taking office in 2007. Senator Klobuchar’s successes in bringing adversarial groups together to find common ground brings to mind a particular virtue of Benjamin Franklin of whom biographer Walter Isaacson once wrote: "Compromisers may not make great heroes, but they do make democracies.” Senator Klobuchar’s accomplishments have been widely recognized. Working Mother magazine named her as "Best in Congress” for her efforts on behalf of working families. She received an award from the Service Women's Action Network for her work to fight sexual assault in the military, and the Disabled American Veterans honored her work to improve the lives of America’s veterans.
