Christopher Norton was born in New Zealand and studied there as a composer and pianist before coming to the UK in 1977. He is probably best-known for his 'Microjazz' collection of educational music for many instruments, which is now the best-selling music series for his publisher Boosey & Hawkes. For a detailed biography, see: https://tinyurl.com/yd8zoja5 . The Eastern Preludes comprse 14 arrangements of traditional tunes from various Asian countries. Per the notes to the score, this piece is based on a children's song about a nipa hut (a nipa being a sort of palm tree) and the words describe the foods traditionally grown in the soil surrounding such a hut. My thumbnail shows a picture of an old nipa hut from https://tinyurl.com/yc7xqklb .
