The Yankees got on the board early in this one, tallying a run on an Aaron Judge single that scored Brett Gardner. The Red Sox answered in a hurry on a 2-run homerun by Mitch Moreland to gain the lead. To continue the back-and-forth, the Yankees answered in the 3rd scoring 3 in the frame. Giancarlo Stanton hit a double that scored Gardner and Judge, and Aaron Hicks hit a sacrifice fly that brought Stanton in to gain a 4-2 lead. The Red Sox got to within 1 in the 5th on an Andrew Benintendi homerun to right field.Gary Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly in the 5th to regain the 2-run lead that scored Judge. The Red Sox came fighting back in the 6th and 7th, with an Eduardo Nunez sacrifice fly that scored Xander Bogaers to get within 1, and then a Hanley Ramirez 2-run shot to get the 6-5 lead. They were unable to maintain the lead, and with a Brett Gardner 2-run triple, and an Aaron Judge 2-run homerun, the Yankees got a 9-6 lead that they were able to hold.
