German Chancellor Angela Merkel sought to calm her European partners at an EU summit meeting in Brussels on Friday.
At a press conference, Merkel reaffirmed her and Germany's commitment to the country's EU obligations, despite the failure of the 'Jamaica coalition' talks in Berlin. "Of course, I was asked by my colleagues on the sidelines of this meeting about what's going on in Germany, I could tell them we, as the [head of the] acting government, will respect our obligations toward Europe, as is normal, and we will continue to contribute actively," she stated.
