Summary:
Doing Push Ups.
One of the manliest things you can do are push ups. And when you’re trying to change your unhealthy ways, it’s a good idea to start working out. Once you take your first step into the gym, you may be overwhelmed by all of the machines and equipment. If you’re a gym noob and you have no idea what you’re doing, you might want to stick to the exercises that you’re more familiar with. Push ups can help you get stronger right? But is it a good idea to only do a bunch of push ups in order to get swole?
Recently, a fitness expert explained the benefits and disadvantages of doing 100 push ups a day to get fit. Since many beginners have no idea where to start, they may believe that doing a ton of push ups is the best way to get some bulging biceps. However, this might not be the most ideal method.
1: The Old Word For Man. This might surprise you, but in English, the word
for man wasn't always... well, "man". In Old English, individual men were known as "wer" while the term "man" was used to describe humanity in general. It was only changed during the 13th century... but not all the way. The OXFORD ENGLISH DICTIONARY tells us that Wer was eventually replaced by man as the term for the individual, while the broad term for all humans remained the same.
2: Averages. Well, let's talk about what's "average" for a male in the United States. The average man is about 5' 9" (175 cm) and they are usually around 190 pounds (86 kg). Believe it or not, this figure has gone up since the 1960s.
3: Life And Death World Stats. There are a couple of stats that may concern men around the world. First off, a report called GENDER GAP: THE BIOLOGY OF MALE-FEMALE DIFFERENCES discovered that all around the world, boy babies are 25% more likely to die in infancy than girl babies.
4: Common Causes Of Death. Can you guess what the most common cause of death for men would be? If you said "stupid stunts" then you'd be wrong, but we don't blame you for that guess. In the U.S.
5: Men's Brains. We'd like to preface this point in the article by saying men are by no means smarter than women. However, that report GENDER GAP: THE BIOLOGY OF MALE-FEMALE DIFFERENCES we mentioned earlier has noted that men have brains that are 10% larger in total size than the brains of women. Before you call us sexist, keep in mind that men tend to be larger and have more muscle mass, which means their brains require more neurons.
6: Rites Of Passage. You may have experienced a rite of passage as a young man. Whether it be your father teaching you how to shave, or maybe you shared a beer with your old man for the first time, either way, you might have gone through a process where you officially turn from a boy into a man.
7: Adam's Apple. Those of you who are religious might know the origin of the name of this body part, but we're going to talk about it for the benefit of all those in the audience who aren't.
8: The Male Symbol. You've seen the symbol for men, right? The circle with the arrow sticking out of it? Well, it has origins in Roman Mythology. It's actually the symbol of the God Of War, Mars.
9: Schooling. Well, we know that men have a hard time living through child birth and then go on to have a hard time living long lives, but what do they do with their limited time on earth? More specifically– how does their education go on average? We're sad to say that it's not good.
10: Stay At Home Fathers. We know that the popular stereotype is that men should go off to work and women should stay home and raise the children. It's an unhelpful stereotype that not only discourages women from going into the work place, but represses a man's desire to be a nurturer.
