How United World Schools (UWS) works with the district and regional authorities, villagers, and builders to build a new UWS school. Nan Sitha, UWS Project Manager, explains the roles of school support committees. http://www.unitedworldschools.org/ Video Transcript: ============= Having established where to build a school, UWS works with the district and regional authorities to obtain the necessary permits for land clearance and construction. The villagers clear the land and then work with the UWS appointed builder to help build the school. Using the villages as labourers reduces construction costs and increases the sense of community ownership. Chris talking with villagers: "I like this land a lot and if we can all agree that this is a good place to build the school when can they start cutting the land". Each school is run by a support committee elected by the village to maintain and run the school. Nan Sitha has worked as a project manager with United World schools since 2008 and plays a vital role in setting up and running the schools in these remote communities. Nan Sitha: "The role of school support committees: they're links between United World Schools and the village; and they are the management team of the school; and I train the school support committee so they have to look after the school; they maintain the school; and make sure the school is running properly".
