A small group of strikers were seen outside the John Deere production plant in Waterloo, Iowa as over 10,000 workers of the farm and construction equipment maker went on strike in the US states of Illinois, Kansas, and Iowa on Thursday.

The strike came after ninety percent of rank-and-file members of the Union of Auto Workers (UAW) which had been negotiating with John Deere to improve the working conditions in the aforementioned states rejected a six-year working plan which reportedly failed to provide fair work and pension conditions to the workers across the board.

The UAW section 838 is said to represent about 3,000 workers at Waterloo, IA, where the biggest production plant of John Deere is also located. This is the first strike of the UAW since 1986.
