UK: Residents of Leigh-on-Sea react to local MP’s deadly stabbing

Residents of Leigh-on-Sea shared their reactions to the murder of lawmaker and member of parliament Sir David Amess on Saturday, who died after being stabbed during a constituency meeting on Friday.

“Total shock, unbelievable that something like that could happen in such a small community. Plus, to Sir David Amess, who was a really, really, good man, always here for the people, helped a lot of people, a lot of charities, both in the area and outside,” stated local resident Connie.

The suspect, 25-year-old man, is now in police custody. Amess received care from paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed on Friday evening that a specialist counter-terrorist command would lead the investigation.

“I’m shocked, like everybody in the community, absolutely devastated. I didn’t think this would ever come on our doorstep here in Eastwood, and he was such a lovely man, there for everybody, and “evil touched Eastwood yesterday, and I don’t know if the community will get over it,” stated Lyn.
