Russia: Putin, Israeli PM Bennett meet for first time in Sochi

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett sat down for bilateral talks for the first time in Sochi on Friday.

“We have many questions that we can and should discuss. I hope that despite the internal political battles, which are inevitable for every state, the government will pursue a policy of continuity in terms of the Russian-Israeli relationship,” Putin said.

Bennett on his part noted that cooperation between Moscow and Jerusalem has “great potential, and we can very actively increase the volume of our trade turnover. We will also discuss the situation in Syria and the efforts which are being made nowadays to stop Iran’s nuclear programme.”

The meeting is the first between the two leaders since Bennett entered office in June.
