‘Police SUV Mows Down Pedestrians Sparking Violent Protests’

Violent protests erupted in Washington, after a police officer drove his SUV through crowds gathering at an illegal street race.

Two people were injured and a 58-year-old officer was put on leave after the incident in Tacoma on Saturday.

On Sunday, around 200 protesters gathered to call for the officer to be arrested and charged for brutality, holding signs reading “Defund TPD” and “Justice for Manuel Ellis” - a black man who died in police custody last year. The marched to Pierce County jail, rattling bars and rousing inmates.

Witnesses said members of the radical far-left group Antifa were among the demonstrators responsible for starting fires and smashing windows at bail bond offices and the City-County building. Washington State has become a hotbed for activist movements such as Black Lives Matter and Campaign Zero.
