Ruptly is live from Mayfield in the US state of Kentucky on Saturday, December 11, following a series of devastating tornadoes that ripped through the southeastern US states.

US National Weather Service Storm Prediction Centre identified more than 20 different tornados in the area from Friday to Saturday.

Kentucky governor Andy Beshear told a press conference the powerful storms were ‘the most severe tornado event in Kentucky’s history’ and more than 56,000 people are without power. He said dozens of people are feared dead.

According to Beshear, most of the destruction centred on Graves County, including the town of Mayfield. “It hit Mayfield as hard as just about any town has ever been hit,” remarked the governor.
