Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said that the next round of nuclear talks are expected to be announced in less than ninety days while speaking at a Tehran press conference on Monday.
Khatibzadeh noted that Iranian authorities were holding discussions on the topic of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Vienna talks “every day, without interruption” at “the expert level.”
The spokesperson also said that while the discussions were “not over yet”, the authorities “will not even waste an hour and will announce a new date.”
“Of course, I do not think that it will take as long as the ninety days which it took Mr. Biden’s government to come to Vienna,” explained Khatibzadeh
“If you count, and if I am not mistaken, it is less than fifty-five days, it has been for about fifty or fifty-five days that Mr. Raisi’s government is in power and has accepted responsibility. So I do not think it will take as long as ninety days,” added Khatibzadeh.
As part of the press conference, Khatibzadeh also touched on the relations between Moscow and Tehran, discussed security concerns in Iraqi Kurdistan and expressed criticism for the Biden administration.

SOT, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Farsi): “The fact is that the executive team of the nuclear talks has changed, and well, the negotiators will definitely have views regarding some of these changes, which will definitely be said at the first meeting in Vienna. I think that the other side also realises that it must come with the necessary flexibility and the understanding that change has taken place in the Iranian government.”

SOT, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Farsi): “The United States could have shown its goodwill in a variety of ways, like returning the money which belongs to the Iranian people and is not donated by anyone.”

SOT, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Farsi): “Sessions are held every day, without interruption, sometimes for several hours, at the expert level, and perhaps several times a week at the decision-making level. And the details of the six rounds of Vienna talks are examined in these sessions. This is not over yet. As soon as it is over, we will not even waste an hour and will announce a new date. Of course, I do not think that it will take as long as the ninety days which it took Mr. Biden’s government to come to Vienna. If you count, and if I am not mistaken, it is less than fifty-five days, it has been for about fifty or fifty-five days that Mr. Raisi’s government is in power and has accepted responsibility. So I do not think it will take as long as ninety days.”

SOT, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Farsi): “We have strategic talks with Moscow on various issues. These talks, of course, have always included developments in the region around us, or the region between Iran and Russia. It suffices to say that regarding some developments in the Caspian Sea region, and some military maneuvers, the positions of Russia and Tehran were quite common and similar. Friends who follow the news are definitely aware of this.”

SOT, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Farsi): “The strategic patience of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding these bankrupt groups of several hundred people is over. The Iraqi Kurdish region must decide whether it wants to host civil groups and civil actions, or military and terrorist groups. Carrying weapons, ammunition, and bombs do not match any civil claims. Therefore, it is obvious and clear that they must either be disarmed or the Kurdistan Regional Government and the central government of Iraq, as the main ally, must disarm them.”

SOT, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Farsi): “Has Mr. Biden’s administration changed today compared with Mr. Trump’s administration? Has he acted on what he said, and what he promised to do? Not the promises he made to us, but the promises he made to his own nation. Mr. Biden’s campaign was a campaign about returning to all the international commitments, on the very first day. What day is it? These words may be appropriate for the media and [imposing] pressure and things like that, but we do not forget, and we do not set aside our goals and missions.”

SOT, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson (Farsi): “The revival of JCPOA must be in the interests of the people. That is if all sanctions are lifted, lifted effectively, the Islamic Republic of Iran will certainly stop all the measures it has taken to reduce its obligations under the JCPOA. They were compensatory measures. All of them are reversible and we can go back to day zero.”
