‘Ever Given Container Ship Blocking Suez Canal ‘Partially Refloated’ in Egypt’

The colossal container ship wedged across the Suez Canal has been “partially refloated”.

Footage shows Egyptian tugboat crews sounding their horns in celebration as the stern of the Ever Given swung towards the canal bank.

The partial freeing of the Ever Given came after intensive efforts to push and pull the vessel with 10 tugboats at high tide.

However teams working to free the vessel said it was unclear how long it would take to fully reopen the canal.

The skyscraper-sized ship got stuck sideways in the crucial waterway nearly a week ago.

At least 367 vessels are still waiting to pass through the canal.

The obstruction has held up to $9 billion US dollars each day in global trade.
