Historic RAF planes conducted a spectacular flypast over central London to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

A service was also held at Westminster Abbey as part of the commemorations, to remember the 1,497 pilots and crew killed or mortally wounded during the battle.

A turning point in World War Two, the battle fought by the Royal Air Force against Nazi Germany’s Luftwaffe resulted in Hitler postponing his plans to invade Britain.
