Austria: Tensions high during anti-COVID restrix protest in Vienna

Tensions were high in Vienna on Saturday as protesters including COVID sceptics gathered in the Austrian capital to demonstrate against COVID-19 restrictions and the approval of mandatory vaccination.

Protesters could be seen shouting ‘Freedom’ at police officers who surrounded them and tried to break the crowd apart.

On January 20, Austria became the first European country to enact a law for a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine, after the majority of the parliament voted in favour of the bill despite opposition from the right-wing Freedom Party.
