This is a shoe I've been looking forward to for quite a long time, the Zoom Fly Flyknit. I haven't been a huge fan of the Epic React, so I was intrigued when I learned that the midsole cushioning would be React foam. I even went back and bought a pair of Zoom Fly SP so that I could have a point of comparison for this shoe.
The Zoom Fly SP was a pleasant surprise, and while quirky, it quickly turned into one of my favorites in the rotation. And now that I've had a chance to run in the Zoom Fly Flyknit, I can say that this picks up right where its predecessor left off.
The things I like about React foam seem to be brought forward. And the things I didn't like about it seem to be minimized somehow (although they're still there, to an extent).
And in terms of the quirkiness of the original Zoom Fly, the flyknit version doubles down. It still has that two shoe feel, depending on running pace, and it still has that weird drop off near the toes. And likely, this is all because it still has a plate in it, although now it's actually carbon fiber, rather than the carbon infused nylon plate from before.
I'll be putting in a lot of miles over the next few weeks as we head into the Chicago Marathon. Stay tuned for more videos.
Thanks for watching. Leave a comment to let me know you stopped by!
