In 1989 I had the pleasure of cataloging the film collection of one of the early visionaries of the ski resort industry, a California-born peer of Walt Disney, Howard Hughes, and Walter Knott. Among my favorite films that he owned is this B&W composed of footage from winters in the Yosemite Valley. The charm and innocence of the 1930s underpins the adventurous zeal of the Californians in this early ski film. I especially love the ice skating event and the costumes used there while the gear and clothing throughout this film effuse Old World craftsmanship.
Transferred from a 400 foot reel of 16 mm film. This comes from the personal collection of Dave McCoy (1915-pres), the developer and former owner of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and June Mountain. Shot in Yosemite CA during the 1930s. Copies of this now rare film were once sold for home viewing. Not sure if the sound is original. My guess is no since the film includes title cards as any silent film of the era would.
