Yosemite Firefall Around the second week of February, the setting sun hits Horsetail Falls at just the right angle, to illuminate the waterfall, and when conditions are perfect, Horsetail Falls glows orange and red at sunset, giving the illusion it’s on fire. In 2019 I made the last minute decision to jump in the van with a friend and make the drive from San Diego, CA up to Yosemite National Park to try and photograph the Firefall phenomenon. The first two days didn't work out due to clouds forming in the western sky just before sunset. The third day it was snowing so we started the long drive home just after sunset. Two hours into the drive we decided to turn around and give it another couple days. I'm really glad we did cause the next two days we were blessed with two of the most amazing sunsets and clear skies to the west which allowed us to photograph the Firefall event.
