U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., announced the availability of $3 million in homeland security grants for the New Orleans area. This funding is provided through the FY 2014 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations Act and will go toward protecting critical infrastructure and improving emergency management capabilities in Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes. The grant will help state and local authorities and private-sector partners prevent terrorist attacks, fight illegal immigration and trafficking, and respond to natural disasters and other emergencies.
