Most of us have illegal electricity, illegal water tapping because we don't have money for payment because we don't have jobs, and nothing to feed our families, right? So the solution there is to remove the ban, let us leave, let us go to Iraq so we can work." 7. Migrant workers praying behind barbed wires 8. Close-up female migrant worker crying 9. Placard 10. Protesters being dragged away STORYLINE: Around 100 migrant workers gathered near the presidential palace in Manila on Friday, to urge the government of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to lift the ban on sending workers to Iraq. The ban was imposed last month after a Filipino truck driver, Angelo dela Cruz, was abducted by Iraqi militants. He was freed after Manila pulled out its troops ahead of schedule, as demanded by the kidnappers. Holding placards asking the government to allow them to travel, the workers said their families are suffering and will continue to suffer if they stay in the Philippines. They said they would rather risk their lives than face joblessness and hunger at home. Friday's demonstration followed a protest last week when 3,000 Philippine workers protested against the ban. About 4,000 Filipinos currently work in US military camps throughout Iraq.
