World welcomes 2018 with glittering fireworks

Countries around the globe celebrate the new year with spectacular fireworks displays, including the UK, where London and Edinburgh hosted major events. London's Big Ben, which is undergoing maintenance work, was temporarily available to ring in 2018 as more than 100,000 people gathered on the banks of the river Thames to celebrate amid tight security.
