Women Cycling in London - Cyclist Compilation

This video is dedicated to all women who cycle in London, or anywhere else. As a man cycling in London I feel vulnerable and sometimes intimidated. Do women feel the same way, or possibly even more? After 20 years riding in London I have seen an increase in women cycling. Unfortunately this year has been accompanied by high number of female cyclist’s fatalities, and last week a video showing a woman getting pushed off her bike by a pedestrian went viral. Recent events and an article by Nell Frizzell inspired me to edit, complete and upload this video. I would like the message of the clip to be as per read article: “A bike is a two-wheeled instrument of freedom, emancipation and power”. “Yes, you may sometimes get strangers commenting on your legs, you may get taxi drivers pushing you into parked cars, you may be laughed out of a bike shop for asking about panniers, you may have a door opened on to your oncoming knees, you might get a middle-aged, lycra-clad bore asking “is that’s your dad’s bike, love?”, you might nearly get hit by pedestrians tapping away on their phones and you might get heckled by people outside pubs. But, my god, it’s worth it!” Nell Frizzell Above quotes were taken from the following article, which as mentioned, also inspired me to upload the video: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/aug/26/bike-women-cyclist-pushed-pedestrian-social-media A Toronto-based consultancy described women cyclists as the “indicator species” for how bike-friendly a city is. “If there aren’t at least as many women as men, then usually it’s because cycling is not safe enough. It’s an indicator that you do not have good enough cycling infrastructure.” Quote from Alix Stredwick (Sustainable transport consultant): the gender imbalance in London “reflects the hostile road environment for cycling”. “If we have a street environment that’s hostile, that has no facilities, that has fast traffic with heavy lorries thundering past, we will get low numbers of courageous people, mainly men, on racing bikes and pretty well no one else.
